Inspired by the way artist Chuck Close uses a grid to break his large portrait paintings into smaller "bite sized" pieces, 7th graders tried their hand at gridded self portraits. After studying value and discussing proportion, students first made a grid on their final paper, and translated the information from each square on their photograph into the corresponding square on their final paper. Lastly, they were challenged to add value and imitate the texture from their photograph. They did an awesome job! (There will be more to come as they are completed!)
