In an effort to improve accuracy in capturing the human form, students practiced gesture drawing. Gesture drawings are rapid drawings of people without any detail with a main focus of communicating the human form. Students took turns modeling for and drawing one another. For their final project they were asked to pick a dynamic movement to be conveyed in a series of seven stages from start to finish.

In this lesson, students discussed the question: "Is graffiti art or vandalism?" They looked at work from Banksy, a famous graffiti artist who uses stenciled graffiti pieces to give a voice to social, economic, and political issues such as poverty, government surveillance, and equality. Then, they were challenged to create their own graffiti piece. Objectives included designing their own font, using bold colors, and having unity in their finished product. Check out some of their awesome works in progress! |
