When we were first learning about lines, students posed for one another and drew them in the style of gesture drawing. Gestures are quick motions that communicate, just as gesture drawings are quick drawings (30 seconds-2 minutes) that communicate what the body is doing. Students worked to create emphasis through color and size with watercolors in the final stage.
Students completed several value studies over the past weeks, ranging from creating value scales using different techniques, to applying them to white forms, and using charcoal and chalk pastel to create the illusion of form. Shown here are several of the pieces they worked on relating to value. The 8th grade students learned about graffiti artist like Banksy. They drew their own Graffiti with a explosion of colors and there first names. The graffiti is now going on the front page of their art journals. -Erin |
