Mrs. Taylor
"This is my sixth year at Hillyard and my tenth year teaching art. I cannot imagine ever doing anything else because I love what I do! I am a graduate of James Madison University with a bachelors in art education and certified to teach all levels K-12. I started my teaching experience at the elementary level between two schools with over 700 names in my grade book. My second year I moved to the new middle schools that were opening in that county and I fell in love with this age group. I have been at the middle school level now going on seven years and enjoying the experience! As an artist I love working with a variety of mediums, pencil portraits are a strong favorite along with visual journaling. As an educator I believe that we teach students skills that will make them better artists but more importantly we prepare them for life beyond our classrooms. We practice critical thinking, communication and self reflection through classroom critiques of our art and we encourage one another throughout the creative process. We focus individually on strengthening our weaknesses and challenging our strengths. We promote growth and courage as we share our work with one another and display pieces for the school and our community. I look forward to getting to know and working with you this year!
