After color studies that included color matching through mixing and painting techniques students were ready to start their canvases. In honor of the our National Parks turning 100 students were asked to find a park image that they liked to be the subject of their acrylic paintings. After many hours we are please to show you their results!

Students completed color wheels and then challenged their color mixing skills. They were asked to match colors from impressionist paintings taken from discarded calendars. Eighth grade 2D students are gearing up for some portrait painting. They have been looking at the work of Kehinde Wiley's portrait work as a basis for an upcoming project. Here we are working on observation and value application to create depth. We are moving into color study and the creation of skin tones. Wiley is our inspiration, you can see his work in the link below. Students practiced direct observation drawings utilizing blocks and found objects while limiting color.
